Rubber Ducky Day

(Google Image)

By Diane Forrest

Rubber Ducky, you're the one,
You make bath time lots of fun,
Rubber Ducky, I'm awfully fond of you;

(woh woh, bee doh!)

Rubber Ducky, joy of joys,
When I squeeze you, you make noise!
Rubber Ducky, you're my very best friend, its true!

(doo doo doo doooo, doo doo)

Every day when I
Make my to the tubby
I find a little fella who's
Cute and yellow and chubby

(rub-a-dub-a-dubby!)

Rubber Ducky, you're so fine
And I'm lucky that you're mine
Rubber ducky, I'm awfully fond of you

I remember hearing this song many times growing up, and I loved watching Earnie sing it on Sesame Street.  Rubber duckies have been around since th4e 1800's, but  there isn’t any record of their origin.  However, as time goes by, they seem to be getting more popular.  Now they come dressed in any number of different costumes.  When my son graduated high school I gave his class members each a rubber ducky in a cap and gown.   We had planned a hula party during his wedding festivities, and I have found some duckies wearing Hawaiian shirts and sporting leis.  You can also find a bride a groom ducky and even duckies for baby showers.   They are just cute little toys that really do make bath time lots of fun!

According to punchbowl.com, in January of 1992, a shipment of 29,000 rubber duckies fell off a cargo ship in the Pacific Ocean? By 2007, the “Friendly Floatees” had traveled 17,000 miles around the world on the ocean currents. Some are still afloat today! Over the years, people reported sightings in Indonesia, Australia, South America, the Bering Strait, the Arctic, and (eventually) the Atlantic Ocean.

So today, on Rubber Ducky Day, grab your little duck and splash around in the tub!

Bubble Bath Day

(Google Image)

By Diane Forrest,

When I was young I always loved going to my grandmother's house.  I could always get away with almost anything, and I was able to take bubble baths.  I don't know why I never could take them at home, I guess my mom was too busy to clean up after it, or just ready for me to get in the bed.  Because I was only able to take them every now and then, they were special treats.

When my husband and I were looking for our first home his only requirement was a large tub with a Jacuzzi so that he would be able to stretch out in it and soak the day away.  The house we bought had a very small tub in it, but we were able to have a whole new bathroom added on and the first thing he picked out was his tub.

Today is Bubble Bath Day, and there is almost nothing more relaxing than to lay back in a tub full of bubbles and soak, sip on some wine, listen to music and burn some scented candles.  Just sitting here writing about it makes me want to jump in the tub right now.  Bubble baths are also fun for kids.  They allow them to play, sink battle ships, make a beard out of bubbles and float rubber ducks.  One helpful tip is to leave the Jacuzzi off when taking a bubble bath.  Speaking as someone with experience, the force of the water will cause the bubbles to reproduce and reach the ceiling if not stopped.

A new trend this year is to make your own bubble bath and give as gifts for occasions such as bridesmaid gifts, birthday gifts or hostess gifts.  Below is a recipe for you to try.  Just package in a cute plastic jar and wrap with ribbons.

So today, on bubble bath day, kick back in a soapy tub and wash all your cares away.

Bath Safety

By Akindman,

It's National Bath Safety Month! Splish Splash: Take a Safe Bath

It may be cold, the kids may be home, and all you want to do is relax. How about taking a bubble bath? Jan. 8 is National Bubble Bath Day, part of National Bath Safety Month. The goal: to reduce the nearly 43,000 bathtub injuries that occur every year in the United States.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that people take the following tips to make your bathroom safe:

  • Never, for any reason, leave a child unattended around any amount of water. Even a small amount can pose a safety threat.
  • Baby bath seats don't take the place of supervision. Do not leave a child in a bath tub seat unattended.
  • Use a toilet seat lock in the bathroom

If you have an elderly or disabled person living with you, the AARP recommends you take these precautions:

  • Install grab bars for the toilet, shower, and tub
  • Install nonskid tile or use non-skid bath mats
  • Set the water heater at a low setting to prevent scalds

Ever sneeze while taking a shower? Most of us have at one time or another – and having a grab bar nearby sure is helpful.
