National Tie Month – Update 2012

Those two hundred or so kind soles who read last year’s article are fully aware of my disdain for ties in general. Yet I do agree with Cindy, if women must wear pantyhose, then I guess us fella should wear ties. I say that today – as we know being retired has little to no dress code (but certainly not Wal-Mart style).

One of the nice things about ties over the past decade or two have been the ever widening selection of ties to choose from.  So the last few years that I was working, my collection of unusual, funny, strange, etc. of ties grew – now taking up space in my closet.  In January, the month to get our act organized for the New Year, believe most of my ties will be donated.

National Tie Month

(Google Image)

By Akindman,

A necktie (or tie) is a long piece of cloth worn for decorative purposes around the neck or shoulders, resting under the shirt collar and knotted at the throat. Variants include the ascot tie, bow tie, bolo tie, and the clip-on tie. The modern necktie, ascot, and bow tie are descended from the cravat. Neck ties are generally unsized, but may be available in a longer size. Men and boys wear neckties as part of regular office attire or formal wear. Neckties can also be worn as part of a uniform (e.g. military, school and waitstaff), whereas some choose to wear them as everyday clothing attire. Neckties are traditionally worn with the top shirt button fastened, and the tie knot resting comfortably between the collar points. However, it has become common in recent times for neckties to be worn as a casual item, tied loosely around the neck, nearly always with one or several buttons unfastened. (Wikipedia)

Folks who know me – fully understand my distain for Ties!   A good friend (Cindy) of mine once told me that “ties are the male version of pantyhose”.

Consider how expensive they have become – more than many good shirts!  In the event something spills upon them – odds they get discarded! Poof - $50.00 or more in the trash. Yikes!!  For what?
