I usually go through different cravings for
food...sometimes I just can't get enough vegetables, and others, I have to have
fruits. The summer is a great time to
get plenty of both, but fruits are really great. To preserver the fresh taste of them, you can brandy them. All you need is fruit,
sugar and brandy. Wash the fruit, peel
off any skin, and slice if necessary. Fill half a container with brandy and add
the fruit. For each cup of fruit you add, stir in 1/6 cup of sugar. Make sure
all the fruit is submerged in the mixture, cover the container, and store it in
a dark place. You can continue to add fruit at any time. Your brandied fruit
will be cured after a couple of months.

This is really delicious over pound cake with some ice
cream or whipped cream on top, or just get some right from the bowl.

Today is National Brandied Fruit day. If you don't have
any stored away and marinating, you can go to the store and buy some already
brandied. So, if you haven't ever tried
it, today is the perfect time to give it a taste.
